Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin has started a war with Ukraine. Pain, anger, and shame are the three words that reflect our attitude to what is happening. This affair will bring grief to the families of thousands of people both in Ukraine and Russia. This affair can become a huge war, in which other states will also be involved. The world has never been so close to a global catastrophe since the Cuban Missile Crisis.

We, journalists of independent Russian media, declare that we are against the massacre started by the Russian leadership. We promise to talk honestly about what is happening while we have this opportunity. We wish resilience and strength to the people of Ukraine who are resisting aggression and to everyone in Russia who is now trying to resist weaponized madness.

We are also appealing to those who are trying to rationally explain the motives for starting the war, justifying its beginning by the need of protection from NATO and "Ukrainian Nazism". The war is no longer just an argument on TV and in kitchens. It has become real. There are tanks in Kharkov. And people always die in real wars. We hope you do not receive a condolence letter. But there can be no certainty about this. No war.
