Deputies from 35 municipalities signed a petition for Vladimir Putin's resignation. In addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg, these are deputies from Yakutsk, Voronezh, Vyksa, Tomsk, Veliky Novgorod, Tula Oblast. All these signatures are verified.

In September, deputies of the Smolninskoye Municipal District from St. Petersburg called on the State Duma to remove Vladimir Putin from office for treason. They became defendants in the case of discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and the court dissolved the Council of Deputies. Ksenia Torstrem, a deputy of another district from St. Petersburg, decided to support her colleagues by creating a petition. After that, deputies from Moscow, and then municipal deputies from all over the country joined the demand by signing a petition.

Human rights advocate Lev Ponomaryov had created a petition for Putin's resignation. He believes that the special operation "has turned Russians into outcasts in the eyes of the entire civilized world." Ponomaryov believes that the president's resignation could "save many lives."
